Description
The Spirax Sarco LC3050 level controller is a high/low level alarm for conductive liquids, defined in EN 12592-11 as a "specially designed level limiter", for steam or hot water boilers with an operating limit of 32 bar @ 239°C. It is dual voltage powered, 230Vac or 115Vac, with a high or low, self-monitoring, high accuracy level sensor from Spirax Sarco. Suitable for steam or hot water boilers with an operating limit of 32 bar @ 239°C. Dual voltage supply, 230Vac or 115Vac, for use with Spirax Sarco's high or low, self-monitoring, high accuracy liquid level sensors. There are two LEDs indicating normal and alarm conditions and a test button (AL), other buttons are not available. Products are available for panel, DIN rail or base plate mounting. An internal simulation of a probe failure is performed every few seconds for automatic cyclic testing of the probe, probe cable and controller. A test button is provided for full testing of the sensor, controller and associated loops, and can be provided for remote testing if required.

The LC3050 complies with the EMC Directive 2004/108/EC and all its requirements. This product meets all the requirements of the directive and is suitable for use in class A environments (e.g. industrial) and fulfills the following criteria:
- EN 61326-1:2006 Safety requirements for electrical equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use.
- EMC Part 1 requirements: Level 1 requirements.
- EN12953-9:2007 - Tube and shell boilers Part 9: Restricted equipment requirements for boilers and accessories.

Function/Input/Output
Typically activates an alarm relay for alarms where the level of a steam or hot water boiler, tank or vessel is outside the normal range. Spirax Sarco's high precision self-monitoring sensors indicate internal faults and leaks. Compare the resistance to ground of the sensor through the water to the boiler or vessel shell. If a change in water level causes the resistance to exceed the set point, a timer changes the state of an internal relay after a preset delay. The signal is typically used to trigger an alarm and cut power to the burner.
The product receives input from the LP30 low level sensor and the LP31 high level sensor. At normal water levels, the green LED illuminates and the boiler panel indicates a normal water level. The green LED turns off briefly every few seconds to indicate that an automatic cycle check is in progress. If the sensor fails due to internal wiring faults or leaks, the compensation probe on the sensor will signal an alarm. Parameters can be transmitted via RS485/MODBUS communication.
Other features
Infrared communication is possible between the LC3050 and a neighboring controller. It is possible to transmit the LC3050 alarm status to an installed RS485 device (user). The user device is fitted with a graphic display. the LC3050 is defined as a slave and does not need to be set up or adjusted.

Security information, installation and maintenance
WARNING: This document does not contain sufficient information to safely install the product. The product operates at hazardous voltages, refer to the Installation and Maintenance Guide supplied with the product before installing the product.
Note: Ensure that there is no condensation inside the product before installing and connecting the power cord. Product can be DIN rail, base plate board or panel mounted. Instrument bezels are provided. The product must be mounted in a suitable industrial control panel or fireproof enclosure to provide crash and environmental protection. Minimum IP54 (EN 60529 standard) or types 3, 3S, 4, 4X, 6, 6P & 13 (UL50/NEMA 250) are required. Spirax Sarco offers suitable plastic and metal boxes.
- Do not install outdoors without additional weather protection.
- Do not attempt to open the product - it is sealed and has no replaceable parts or internal switches.
- Do not block infrared rays between products.
In the UK, the IEE specification (BS 7671) is to be followed, and in other regions, the appropriate protocols are to be followed. All wiring materials and processes must comply with the appropriate EN and IEC standards. No special service, preventive maintenance or product inspection is required. Boiler water level controls and alarms require testing and inspection. General guidance is given in Health and Safety Directive Guidance PM5.
